Interview
How they got involved
- Randy Bachman said: "Like Peter [Frampton] said, you don't say no to a Beatles. The night before, which was, I remembered very clearly, a Wednesday night, there was PBS and they had on 'Help !' and 'Hard Day's Night', 'Help !' and 'Hard Day's Night' and 'Yellow Submarine' and over and over and over. As a fun racing thing on PBS. And the next morning my phone ring and this is from Monaco and that the voice I can't do 'Hello this is Ringo Starr, would you play my band' and hung up the phone. I thought it was my road manager joking and then the phone ring again and it's him and my wife said 'this is Ringo Starr and I said 'No' at first, and then said 'I Am insane' and this was really a great band." and also said on his Facebook page: "Hi Matt, It was really a strange thing. It was 1995. I had watched a whole weekend of The Beatles shows on PBS where the network was asking for support; Hard Days Night, Help, Magical Mystery Tour etc. Wednesday morning, my phone rings and a voice says, this is Ringo Starr, I want you to join my band. I thought it was Marty, my roadie joking and didn't take it seriously. He called back and explained everything it sounded like a fantastic time. The tour lasted 10+ months. We started in Japan and then we toured the United States. He never told me why he chose me. But he did say that every night, he and his wife Barb loved watching the audience respond to Takin' Care of Business. I was fortunate enough to play with this incredible lineup, who all did songs in the show as well as some special guests in certain cities. (...) Ringo left the final leg for a family emergency and the band and I finished up"
